How to Create Your Own Opportunities

Audria Richmond®:I'm so excited about today's audio newsletter because we're gonna be talking about my favorite topic, which is how to create your own opportunities. I am such a fan of creating your own opportunities for so many reasons. The main reason for this is to be able to just do what you wanna do without having to ask for permission or waiting on someone to see you as somebody that they should give an opportunity to. I wanna tell a quick story around my first time experiencing this, and then we're gonna get into some ways on how you can create your own opportunities. So back in the day, a long time ago, I had a magazine called Love New Art Magazine.
Audria Richmond®:And at the time, I was a professional photographer doing fashion photography, wedding photography, maternity photography. You name it, I was a really, really good photographer. And I would see a lot of photographers that I admire get featured in magazines and that was something that I really wanted. And I was like, man, it would be so cool if I can get featured in magazines. And, you know, I would put myself out there and, to be honest, I really didn't even know how to get input how to get myself into a magazine.
Audria Richmond®:I'm quite sure it was probably easy. You probably just had to pitch yourself. I have no idea. But at the time, no one was really, you know, coming to me and asking me to be featured. So I took it upon myself to create my own magazine.
Audria Richmond®:And so we ended up creating a magazine called Love New Art Magazine. And pretty much 80% of the photography in all of the magazines was courtesy of me. Right? And it was a way for me to showcase my photography in different ways. So I was able to create my own covers for each magazine, I was able to do, special photo shoots for people we featured in the magazine.
Audria Richmond®:So it gave me a platform to be able to utilize my photography skills while also building a brand at the same time. And so the the reason that I absolutely love creating opportunity for yourself is that you're not waiting for permission. I see so many people who are waiting to be invited to speak or being invite waiting to be invited to be on somebody's podcast or waiting on someone to include them. And I wanna tell you, if you're waiting to be included, you are wasting time. Alright?
Audria Richmond®:So I wanna give you 3 ways that you can create opportunity right now in your business without needing anyone, without seeking permission, without doing any of that. Alright? So the first thing you could do is pitch yourself and or your ideas. So when I say pitch yourself or your ideas, let me give you 2 scenarios. So here at Unclown Media, we talk a lot about opportunity hour.
Audria Richmond®:And if you're not familiar with this, it's basically where you dedicate 1 hour of your time every single day to pitch yourself in 5 categories. And those 5 categories are media, speaking and appearances, community and activism, collaboration, sponsorships and partnerships, or business opportunities. So those are the 5 categories that we talk about. It is also our trademark process that we teach our clients. So when we talk about pitching yourself in those 5 categories, you really open up yourself to be able to put yourself out there in a lot of different ways.
Audria Richmond®:Right? And so when we talk about pitching yourself, that could that could look like, hey, let me pitch myself to, you know, be on this particular platform or let me pitch myself for a a show idea or something like that. It's basically where you are making people aware of your existence. Because otherwise, people don't know if you you exist if they're not pitching you. If they're not checking for you, they have no idea that you exist.
Audria Richmond®:On the flip side of that, you may have an idea. Maybe you have an idea for a particular business and you know that this will help grow their business and you wanna pitch them. That would be considered a business opportunity. So you could do that as well. The next thing you could do is create your own platform.
Audria Richmond®:That's the second category or the second way in creating opportunities for yourself. You can create your own platform by launching. Right? That's a form of creating your own platform. Every time that you launch, you are essentially creating your own platform.
Audria Richmond®:The second way is events. Right? That's another way of creating your own platform. Creating a podcast or a show, that's a form of creating your own platform. Every time you livestream, that's a form of creating your own platform.
Audria Richmond®:So that's number 2, like creating your own platform. So number 1 was pitch yourself and your ideas. Number 2 is create your own platform. And then number 3 is run ads to get in front of new peoples. Like, I love this one for so many reasons.
Audria Richmond®:The main reason I love running ads is because it's like creating your own billboard on demand. The only difference is that you can control who get to see your content. So if you're like, hey, I really wanna put myself out there in front of new people, and this is another thing too, right? If you are a person that's looking for speed, you're looking for your brand to be accelerated, you have to fall in love with running ads. Right?
Audria Richmond®:It's the only thing by far that I have found that allows me to get in front of people quite instantly. Right? So right now, running an ad right now that's going that's allowing people to visit my Instagram profile. That's a result of me spending $50 a day on Instagram, running a visit Instagram profile ad. And I was able to pick and choose who I wanted to see my ad.
Audria Richmond®:Right? So, I went into the Facebook ads manager. I said I wanted to show it to women who were interested in entrepreneurship, who was between the ages of this and this. You can't do that with a billboard. Right?
Audria Richmond®:You can only say, like, I want my billboard in this particular location. You have no idea if your target audience is in front of that's gonna, you know, walk past your billboard or drive past your billboard. So the beauty in running ads is that you get to cherry pick all the way down to the ZIP code, all the way down to the interest who you want to see your opportunity. So we're gonna come into 2024 not begging, not pleading people for opportunities. We're going to create opportunities, and you could do that by the by these three ways.
Audria Richmond®:Right? So number 1, you could pitch yourself for your ideas. We like to identify this as opportunity hour in those 5 different categories. Number 2, you're gonna create your own platform via lunches, events, podcasts, shows, live streaming. And number 3, you're gonna run ass to get in front of new people who don't know who you are so you can get discovered very quickly.
