Cold Pitching Ideas & Tips
Welcome to the UnCloned® Insider newsletter. My name is Audria Richmond®, and I am your marketing and launch strategist. I'm so excited to dive into this newsletter. I wanna talk about a pitch that I recently received that I think was just hands down a well received, cold pitch. And a cold pitch is basically when someone you don't know reach out and send you an email, for an opportunity to either sell you something, introduce you for to something and or invite you to be a part of something.
Audria Richmond®:And one of the things that I I think is very important is that you should be pitching yourself at least 3 to 5 times, a day, for 1 hour. And we teach this to our clients. We call it the opportunity hour where you dedicate 1 hour in your business to identifying opportunities and pitching yourself. So you should always have something that you can pitch, whether it be an introduction, a collaboration. Maybe you wanna get some things sponsored.
Audria Richmond®:Maybe you're looking for a new client. Maybe you have an idea for someone. So always be identifying opportunities. That way you don't always have to be constantly being married to waiting on people to come to you. Right?
Audria Richmond®:It's gonna come a time in your business where you don't always wanna wait on people to come to you. You're gonna wanna go out and find the exact people that you wanna work with, and that's where cold pitching comes into play. And it doesn't always have to be cold. It could be people you know. It could be people you've worked with before.
Audria Richmond®:So just the whole idea of this is to be able to create opportunity for yourself. So I received this email on Friday. And when I received this email, I must say the title of the email got me. 1st off, I hate checking email. Okay?
Audria Richmond®:I hate checking email, but if I am gonna check email, I definitely want it to be worth my time. And so this email came from a gentleman who sent me an email, and the email subject line was made this for you. And I'm thinking, like, may you know, first off, the title is popping. The subject line of the email is amazing. If you know anything about copywriting or writing or pitching people, you know, the subject line is the first step.
Audria Richmond®:Right? So the subject line said made for you. So I opened up the email, and I'm just, like, so impressed. And in the email, this is what he said. Hey, Audrey.
Audria Richmond®:I made this for you. Hope to help you make some money for your company. This is a strategy that we saw that you weren't using. Think about that. I'm over here thinking like I'm killing it the whole nine.
Audria Richmond®:And then he sends me this email basically saying, hey, I got a strategy that I don't see that you're utilizing that I think that can help you make some more money. Who wouldn't a open the email? B, who wouldn't like at least pay attention to what was sent? So he sent me like a 6 minute YouTube video, basically showing ads in my Facebook ad library and basically identifying opportunity for us, at Unclown Media. I must say I was thoroughly impressed and I've made some I made a list of reasons why I was impressed, and I think you will find this very useful.
Audria Richmond®:So let's dive in. The first thing that I love is that he did his research. He actually went to my Facebook ad library, which is public information for anyone. You can literally go to anyone's Facebook ad library if they're running ads and see what type of ads they're running. So number 1, he already knew that I was running ads.
Audria Richmond®:Bingo Research. Right. He had already identified opportunity for me. So oftentimes when I receive pictures from people, they are not, they rarely ever do their research. And if they do, it's very vague.
Audria Richmond®:Right? I could tell that he did deep research about me and my brand. Number 2, he said, one of the the second thing he did was he didn't make any assumptions, right? He just said, hey, I have an idea that I think would be good for you and your people. So when I actually clicked the video, one of the things he said in the video was like, hey.
Audria Richmond®:I don't know if you have a team, but this is something that I think once I teach you this strategy, this could be passed along to your team. Your team can carry it out this strategy for you. What I love about this is that sometimes people make assumptions when they pitch you. They kind of assume you're not like, say, for instance, you see someone with a bad website, right? You think, oh, I'm about to let them know in this email that they need to improve their website.
Audria Richmond®:They need to do this, this, this and this. And what you don't really understand like what you one thing you don't know is that you don't know if that person is actually working on fixing it. So that's you kind of make an assumption. And oftentimes they don't go well, especially if you don't really have enough data. So by him saying, hey, I want you to pass this along to your team, it gave him an opportunity to identify if I do or don't.
Audria Richmond®:Right. So, you know, when I respond back to his email, I could say, hey, actually, you know, I do have a team. They're not really, that's really not their job. Can you tell me a little bit more about what it is that you actually do? Right?
Audria Richmond®:Because let's say that I didn't have a team. Right? He's kinda assuming that I'm already there. And what I mean by he didn't make any assumptions, he didn't assume I did not have a team. You get what I'm saying?
Audria Richmond®:So it's best assume in a good way than to assume in a negative way. The next thing is he sent me a video. Yeah. Let's just let's just face the facts. Time is precious.
Audria Richmond®:That's why I'm recording this audio, right? I can appreciate audio and video content. I love when people get straight to the point. I am a straight to the point type of person. And that's the kind of, you know, things that I that attracts me.
Audria Richmond®:So when I noticed that the email was very short, you know, 2 sentences at best, and he recorded a video and I watched that video, I was so happy because I'm like, great, I don't have to read through mountain loads of, you know, of all of this text. I didn't have to go through, 2 to 3 paragraphs of text just to get the point. Right? So the fact that he made a video was just all I could think about was convenience. And then the last thing was he actually has sent me a DM on Instagram, and I thought he was spam, because he's definitely not someone that is connected to my community.
Audria Richmond®:So I thought he was was spam, and I actually dismissed his, his DM. Like, I didn't delete it or anything. I just hadn't responded to it. But when I put the 2 and 2 together, because after I had seen my DMs, I want to check my email. When I check my email, it was the same guy right now.
Audria Richmond®:The cool thing about this email is that when his email came through, I could see a thumbnail of the video clip that he made for me when he sent me a link, a link on Instagram. I immediately thought it was spam because you already know these people be coming out the woodworks, sending you spam emails. So when he sent it to me, I assumed that it was spam. So the fact that he he actually sent me an email as well, which shows me because this is the thing, y'all, sometimes we send people DMS and we be like, that person will respond to me. 1st off, DMs are not, in my opinion, the first place of contact when you're reaching out to a professional.
Audria Richmond®:Email is best because when you send an email, it is in a place where people should be checking their emails if they are professional. Right? And other people can actually appreciate that. So the fact that he sent me, you know, he sent me the DM and he sent me the email. I just happened to see the email, in more, like, the thoroughness of the email than I than I did the, DM.
Audria Richmond®:So I really, really, really appreciated that. I wanna say I have one more, tip. Oh, yeah. And this I have one more tip. The last thing was he did not make a hard pitch to me.
Audria Richmond®:Like, he didn't go in. He in the in the video when I watched it, it wasn't like, hey, by the way, you know, will you buy my x y z thing? Matter of fact, he didn't even pitch a call or anything. He just wanted to know, hey, was I utilizing this strategy? And guess what I'm thinking as a marketer, why didn't he pitch me something for sale?
Audria Richmond®:Now what I loved about this strategy was it gives him another opportunity to reach out again. Maybe his ask won't come in this email, but maybe it will come in a follow-up email now that he know that I opened his email, now that he know that I clicked on the link and watched the video. I think it's so important that when you're pitching people that you get straight to the point, you make no assumptions. You give value. Right?
Audria Richmond®:You give value to them, and you you get straight to the point. I really, really, really love this email. You know? I wish more people would pitch like this because this is like I I can't I can't imagine how much money this man is making because this this picture was just spot on. So I just wanted to share that with you.
